Rex Brasher, 1869 to 1960. Signed hand colored print, 1915, signed in the plate. Brasher original print signed in plate and hand colored, This "Rex Brasher" print depicts two birds in a tree. In excellent condition. The frame of this "Rex Brasher print" measures 22 and one half inches by 18 and one half inches and the image measures 13 and three quarters by 9 and one half inches. Rex Brasher was born in 1869, died in 1960

Artist Jeffrey Long Asian Wood block print

Jeffrey Long woodblock prints, This "Jeffery Long" woodblock print is entitled "Namekagon" 9 out of 80.This woodblock print measures 24 by 30 inches and the frame 29 by 36 inches. Mint condition. Jeffrey Long comes from the lineage of painters standing at the point at which pure abstraction meets the representational. Long has organically embraced myriad influences and practices from the annals of art history, from classical Asian wood-block prints to American Pop. Though clearly related to archetypal American traditions, the work strongly resonates with the lean and spare atmosphere of Japanese art. In this, Long finds a visual and spiritual correlation between the tenets of Modernism and ancient art. There is a sense of language created by Long’s use of collage and layering -- color creates territories of discord and rhythm that play off one another. Paint, gold leaf, beeswax and found objects contribute to this process, creating a code of disparate elements that reveal new levels of narrative and poetic understanding. Long's latest series investigates maps, reflecting his fascination with landscape, which was once his primary subject. Though still in the abstract tradition, the narrative of these newer works (such as King Philip’s War) alludes to the displacement and annihilation of native peoples, a kind of chart of the unthinkable, a crossing point of life and death that can never be reconciled. Born in New York, Jeffrey Long has been a long-time Bay Area resident. He is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, among them the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the Gold Award, and the Gottlieb Foundation Grant. He is a co-founder of "Visual Aid, Artists for Aids Relief." His work is in many important public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Oakland Museum and Stanford University. Antique map Taprobana Sri Lanka 17th century

Antique map Taprobana Sri Lanka 17th century, This period antique map is entitled "Taprobana" which is now Sri Lanka. Taprobana (Sri Lanka), circa 1620. Very rare early copperplate map on mould paper, hand-colored. Engraved by Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) after the original by Claudius Ptolemy (87-150). The frame measures 25 and one quarter by 24 and three quarters inches. The image measures 15 and five eighths by 15 and one eighth inches.
